Code of Conduct

The Polyglot Conference is dedicated to providing a conference experience and a safe environment for all, free of harassment, judgment, and discrimination. We strive to create a space where individuals can express their love for languages and language learning, irrespective of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, skin color, age, religion (or lack thereof), or language, whether in person or online.

Attendees of the Polyglot Conference come from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and traditions, united by their passion for languages. While we encourage active participation, friendship, and the sharing of knowledge, we expect all participants to adhere to the principles outlined in this Code of Conduct, treating each other with respect and fostering a safe, educational, and enjoyable environment for all.

Our Values

We value and highly appreciate each and every one of you who has participated, or will participate, in the Polyglot Conference.

One of the things we are most proud of is the diversity of our community: people from many parts of the world, with different perspectives, backgrounds, professions, and languages. This diversity is reflected both in the conference presentations and in its attendees.

Our Expectations

We expect all participants to contribute positively to the event, whether in person or online, including but not limited to:

• Supporting fellow language enthusiasts in their learning journeys and recognizing that each person’s language abilities and methods are unique.
• Interacting respectfully and empathetically with others, both offline and online.
• Expressing opinions thoughtfully and offering constructive criticism.
• Engaging in meaningful discussions related to languages and language learning.
• Encouraging the promotion and appreciation of indigenous languages.
• Respecting the principles outlined in this Code of Conduct.

Violations of Code of Conduct

We have a zero-tolerance policy toward violations of this Code of Conduct. Participants found in breach may face sanctions or expulsion from the conference without a refund, at the discretion of the organizers.

Violations include, but are not limited to:

• Verbal comments reinforcing structures of domination related to gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, appearance, body size, race, age, religion, or language.
• Sharing or displaying sexual images in public spaces.
• Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following others.
• Harassing photography or recording.
• Repeated disruption of talks or events.
• Inappropriate physical contact.
• Unwelcome sexual attention of any kind.
• Spamming or sending unwelcome messages for commercial, romantic, or unrelated purposes.
• Impersonating members or creating deceptive profiles.
• Posting personal information of others such as phone numbers, addresses, or payment details.
• Hate speech, offensive language, defamation, or threats of violence.
• Posting third-party content without permission.
• Posting content that encourages self-harm.
• Discussions of religion or politics used to insult, belittle, or promote harmful ideologies.
• Advocating or encouraging any of the above behaviors.

Enforcement

Participants asked to stop improper behavior are expected to comply immediately. This Code applies to all conference spaces, including exhibitor booths and event-related activities.

Organizers reserve the right to take any action necessary to maintain a welcoming environment, including warnings or expulsion without refund.

Reporting

If someone makes you or anyone else feel unsafe or unwelcome, please report it as soon as possible to one of the Conference Organisers.

Harassment and other violations undermine the value of the event for everyone. We want all attendees to have a positive and enjoyable experience.

Personal Report

You can make a personal report by contacting any member of the Organising team.

When filing a report, staff will prioritize your safety and privacy. You may bring someone for support, and you will not be required to confront anyone. Your identity will not be disclosed without necessity.

The team can assist with contacting venue security, local law enforcement, support services, escorts, or other safety measures.
