Language and Disadvantage in Education
Language and Disadvantage in Education is a subject that reflects both the destructive yet revitalizing elements that the postmodern society has to offer.
Researching the constitutions of Ireland and India, this paper briefly explores the language protection acts that are often overlooked for attempting to prioritize personal profit over language revitalization by the respective governments.
This research attempts to critique an example of the continuity of a homogenous approach to language teaching that makes children lose their interest to learn about their cultural backgrounds and to develop unconscious bias that perpetuates a sense of negativity towards their native culture. This evidence is provided based on a set of empirical data in relation to the collected media reports that document cases of linguistic disadvantage.
