Languages of Slovenia Challenge

Languages of Slovenia Challenge

Q. Which languages can I choose from?

Any of the following languages spoken in Slovenia: Slovenian, Hungarian, Croatian, Serbian, Romani, German or Italian.

Q. When can I apply and when does it start and finish?

Applications are open from 9th-20thJuly 2018. The challenge runs for 3 months from 20th July to 20th October 2018.

Q. Do I need to come to the Polyglot Conference to participate?

Not at all, this challenge is open to anyone as all communication will be on facebook and judging will be made based on your own videos.

Q. Do I need to be a beginner?

Ideally yes, but if your level is still basic, then you can still join. We’ll ask you to explain your prior experience with the language on the application form.

Q. How long will the challenge run for?

Three months exactly from 20th July to 20th October

Q. How much does it cost?

The cost will be 25 Euros per person and that money will go into a prize fund to win Italki vouchers. The more participants we have, the more the prize fund will increase. We will aim to have at least 3 prizes of different values.

Q. How do I register?

Click HERE to access the application form. There is also a link on the form to make payment of 25 Euros. Once registered, you will then be given instructions about making your introductory video.

Q. What videos will I have to make?

You will have to make a video on or before the 20th of July to introduce yourself and to say which language you will be learning and if you have any experience with that language. This only needs to be 1-2 minutes long. During the challenge, we will make update videos after one month and two months and then your final video speaking as much as you can in your new language after 3 months (the final video can be on your own or with a speaker of your chosen language). Full instructions before each deadline will be added to the Facebook group. To be considered for a prize at the end, you must have made all four videos throughout the three month period.

 Q. When does judging take place?

Judging will take place shortly before the Polyglot Conference in Slovenia at the end of October. Winners will be announced at the conference but if the winner isn’t there in person, they will still receive their prize afterwards.

Q. How can we talk to other participants of the challenge?

We will have a Facebook group where everyone can interact with each other. Maureen and Richard will act as Admins in the group and will post updates and answer questions. Instructions about making/posting videos will be posted in this facebook group.

Take the challenge (€25)!
