Call for papers

The 7th Annual Polyglot Conference: Fukuoka, Japan, 18-20th October 2019

At this year’s conference, we will have four separate tracks for papers and presentations, three related to our overall theme of “Languages of Asia”, honoring our host culture and its region.

I. Languages, Dialects and Cultures of Japan

II. Asian Languages and Cultures

III. Minority, Endangered & Indigenous Languages & Sleeping Beauties

IV. Other Language-related Topics

Track I. Languages, Dialects and Cultures of Japan

In this track, we would like to celebrate the host country its languages, dialects and cultures. You could explore topics ranging from historic, classical topics related to Japan to its modern trends in J-Pop and Manga or venture into Japan’s linguistic diversity.

Track II. Asian Languages and Cultures

In this track, we would like to hear about the languages and cultures of the Asian continent, whether it be from neighbouring countries, such as China and Korea or from a little further afield.

If you have a paper that you passionately feel comes under this topic please submit it here.

Track III. Minority Languages and Cultures in Asia

In this track, we would like to join up with the UN initiative for 2019 in celebrating the indigenous language of the world, with a specific interest on the linguistic diversity from endangered, minority, indigenous and even languages being brought back to life “Sleeping Beauties”. This topic could also incorporate the work of field linguistics, who work in documenting, conserving, preserving, reconstructing and teaching our rich and broad linguistic heritage..

If you have a paper that you passionately feel comes under this topic please submit it here.

Track IV: Other Language-related Topics

At the Polyglot Conference, we like to keep some space available to people with genuinely interesting topics that do not fit the overall themes so easily.
